Kicking off October next year, Snoop Dogg‘s ‘I Wanna Thank Me’ tour will see the Californian rapper headline venues in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. This will be the rhymer’s first visit to our shores since 2014, when he was part of the line-up for what would be the last ever Big Day Out festival.

The tour takes its name from Snoop Dogg’s 17th(!) studio album and accompanying career-spanning documentary of the same name, released in 2019. But take a look at any recent setlist, and you’ll see Snoop isn’t shy about doling out the hits.

As well as covering luminaries like 2PacBiggie, and his Pharrell Williams hit joint ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’, Snoop regularly performs the classics – ‘Nuthin’ But A G Thang’, ‘The Next Episode’, ‘Who Am I (What’s My Name)?’ – material that has long been ingrained in hip hop’s DNA.

First turning heads on Dr. Dre‘s 1992 masterpiece The Chronic, Snoop Dogg is one of the founding voices of the gangsta rap era, but he found success well after the genre’s boom times began waning. His canny reinvention has ensured his long-lasting career, from adding his flavour to pop stars like Katy Perry and Justin Bieber, to dabbling with reggae (as the “reincarnated” Snoop Lion) and even Gospel (for 2016’s Bible of Love album).

Snoop isn’t just a living hip hop icon, he’s an entrepreneur and bona fide pop culture staple that spans movies, memes, his own cannabis business, and questionable cooking shows. And how often do you get an audience with someone like that?

Snoop Dogg plays the following shows in 2022.

Wednesday 26 October – RAC Arena, Perth WA
Friday 28 October – Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney NSW
Saturday 29 October – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne VIC
Tuesday 1 November – Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Brisbane QLD
